Day 12 – Infant Holy, Infant Lowly by the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. This is the perfect song for today, as we celebrate the Sabbath, and get ready for Christmas. “Christ the babe was born today”
This tender traditional Polish carol, arranged by Mack Wilberg, tells the Christmas story of the manger and the shepherds. With short phrases and rising crescendo in each line, the music points to the joyful declaration of the last lines in each verse:
“Christ the Babe is Lord of all.”
“Christ the babe was born for you.”
Lyrics:
Infant holy, infant lowly,
For his bed a cattle stall;
Oxen lowing, little knowing,
Christ the babe is Lord of all.
Swift are winging angels singing,
Nowells ringing, tidings bringing:
Christ the babe is Lord of all.
Flocks were sleeping, shepherds keeping
Vigil till the morning new
Saw the glory, heard the story,
Tidings of a gospel true.
Thus rejoicing, free from sorrow,
Praises voicing, greet the morrow:
Christ the babe was born for you.
